STIC Newcomer Resource Packages

STIC Menu Accounting Automotive Service Technician (Motor Vehicle Mechanic) Engineering Health Care The project has been developed for four sectors: Engineering, Accounting, Health Care, and Automotive Service Mechanics.

The success of this program relies on relevant, up-to-date Resource Packages for each participant.

Each resource package must contain:

  • Articles and other documents providing labour market information on the occupation and related industries and occupations. This will entail visits to a library or employment resource centre as well as Internet access.
  • Sample job advertisements for each occupation.
  • A copy of the relevant provincial Act governing each occupation. You can order these Acts from Publications Ontario (416) 326-5300 or 1-800-668-9938. You can also obtain them through the Internet at http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/home_E.asp?lang=en
  • Licensing/certification information (requirements and process) from the appropriate regulatory bodies.
  • Articles relating to advances in technology in each occupation.

The STIC curriculum for each occupation provides job advertisement samples, links and resource suggestions for you to create these packages. However, there are also some very useful starting points on the web that you and your participants will find useful, as part of your program and after.

These web sites have information for the STIC occupations, but also provide additional information about other occupations, community services and resources that you and your participants will find useful. Staying up to date on trends, both in terms of occupational labour market and in services and resources for newcomers is essential for you to provide ongoing service to newcomers entering the local labour market.
